Heroic Hannah raises over £10,000 for desperate Bangladesh street children

Date published: 04 May 2021

Heroic nine-year-old Lyndhurst Primary School pupil Hannah Miah has walked a total of 40km in an effort to raise money towards the desperate plight of street children in Bangladesh.

Warm-hearted Hannah’s initial target was to raise £1,000 for the cause, but she has so far raised over £10,000 - and donations are still coming in!

Hannah’s older sister Amana has also made £600 profit selling sweets, with 100% of the cash raised going towards Hannah’s charity.

Hannah’s proud dad Jewel said: “The support from everyone in the community has been unbelievable and has brought everyone together.

“Hannah’s School, Lyndhurst Primary, have also been supportive and are proud of Hannah’s achievements.

“Members from my local football club, Red Star Bengal FC, family and friends from different towns have also joined in Hannah’s challenge and walked, ran and cycled between them over 1,500km before the start of Ramadan.

“Hannah’s campaign has truly brought the community together for a great cause at a time when it is needed the most!

“After watching the disheartening street children video during last Ramadan, Hannah was able to reflect and appreciate how fortunate she is having a family and home.

“As a result, she wanted to do something for those street children.

“Hannah is hoping with her efforts she can raise donations to rescue as many children as possible from the streets, but most important is raising awareness of the daily struggles and hardship the children are facing on the streets.”

Hannah has now vowed to walk a further 10km to show her appreciation for the support and donations which help her reach £10,000.

Hannah has received ‘The Oldham Pledge’ high achievement award and Morrisons’ ‘Little sunshine in the community’ award for charity work and for being a little sunshine in our community.
