Find out when the 'Don't Trash Oldham' clean up teams will arrive in your area

Oldham Council’s ward-by-ward deep clean – part of their £1.27m Don’t Trash Oldham campaign – is set to begin at the start of next month.

Over the coming weeks and months, council staff will be coming into neighbourhoods removing litter, waste and fly-tipping.

The extra clear-ups will be in addition to the work of the regular street cleaning teams.

Alexandra is the first ward to be tackled by the council teams, from September 1.

Staff will continue to work through the list as each area is completed.

Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: “When I took over as leader of the council, I said we’d do more to clean up our borough after listening to feedback from residents.

“We’ve already started recruiting more street cleaners, enforcement marshalls and teams who will clear fly-tipping.

“The next phase is to start the area clean-ups. Some areas won’t need a lot of work because residents already look after where they live – but I’m sure this extra investment will be welcomed.

“Some people will say this is just a stunt but we are looking to make a real difference and improve people’s communities. No one wants to live in a tip.

“Once we’ve cleaned up your neighbourhood it’s over to you and your neighbours to keep it tidy. We can’t keep coming back to clean up and we will take action against those who think they can leave waste and rubbish.”

The full rolling programme (subject to change) is:

  • Sept - Alexandra
  • Oct – Chadderton Central and North
  • Nov – Shaw and Crompton
  • Dec –Medlock Vale
  • Jan – St James’ and Waterhead
  • Feb – Coldhurst
  • Mar –Werneth and Chadderton South
  • Apr – Royton North and South
  • May – Failsworth East and West
  • June – Saddleworth Wards x 3
  • July – St Mary’s
  • August – Hollinwood

Councillor Amanda Chadderton, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “If you have friends and families in these areas, please let them know when we’ll be in their community cleaning up.

“We’ll be sharing the news via signage, social media, leaflets, door knocking and through the media. But we won’t be able to reach every home so you’ll be helping by spreading the word.

“Over the next few months our teams are going to have a lot of work on so work with and together we can make a difference.”
