Dr Kershaw’s brand new furniture store, has been launched officially by The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Jenny Harrison.

'The Furniture Hub' is based in Neo House, Shaw Road, just five minutes from the hospice on Turf Lane.  The store is open for anyone to purchase high quality new and used furniture to support patient care at Dr Kershaw’s.

Customers can come in and browse new and used furniture ranging from small coffee tables to three piece suites, whilst treating themselves to a sit down with a hot drink and cake in a new coffee area.

There is also an option for customers to have their furniture delivered at a small cost.

Joanne Sloan, Chief Executive at Dr Kershaw’s said: "It’s an exciting day, we are thrilled to open our new furniture store, which offers wonderful furniture at practical prices.

"The pandemic has had a devastating effect on the income that we bring into our Hospice, and The Furniture Hub is a fantastic opportunity for us, every penny will be ploughed back into patient services, supporting patients and their loved ones at the most difficult of times."

The Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Jenny Harrison cut the red ribbon at the launch event to officially open The Furniture Hub and welcome the community into the store for the first time.

Cllr Harrison was full of praise for the new store: "I have very much been looking forward to today, it gives me enormous pride and pleasure to open the store. The Furniture Hub fulfils so many functions, and I am very impressed with how modern and professional the store is.  A great deal of thought and work has gone into making it feel like you are walking round an actual furniture store.

"Congratulations to everyone who has been involved, both staff and volunteers from the Hospice, I wish you every success with The Furniture Hub in the coming months."

The Mayor’s Consort, Councillor Shaid Mushtaq added: "The Furniture Hub is a great space, it feels very welcoming and offers so many opportunities for the community, including for those who aren’t necessarily in a position to purchase brand new furniture. There are so many fantastic furniture options available at affordable prices."

The space will also be used by the hospice for a knitting club for volunteers, and restoration classes to learn how to bring unloved items back to life.

As part of the new project, the team at Dr Kershaw’s are also collecting furniture to sell in the store. Quality used furniture will be gratefully received by the fundraising team.  Call 0161 624 2727 for details on how to donate.  The hospice can arrange collection if required.
