GCSE results day: 'Incredible' achievements saluted by Blue Coat Head

Students, staff and parents were all delighted as GCSE results were released this morning at Blue Coat school.

A total of 43% of all grades awarded were at Grade 7 or above and 90% of students also achieved a Grade 4 or above in English and Maths.

Over 70% of all students also achieved the EBAcc qualification.

Jack Pennystan completed the clean sweep and was awarded Grade 9s in all of his 11 subjects.

Other students also collected multiple grade 9s included Emma Goddard (10), Daisy Hopkins (9), William Webster (8), Evie Rowlandson (8), Elizabeth Ashton(8) and Grace Marshall (8).

Jack is now looking forward to continuing this studies at the Blue Coat Sixth Form in September.

As well as achieving his incredible results, Jack also took part in the Maths Maclaurin Olympiad, which is a National Maths competition for those getting the top marks in the UKMT challenge.

He qualified with Distinction putting him in the top percentile of students his age in the country.

This is a huge achievement and something we are all very proud of.

Jack has long-term ambitions of studying Maths at Oxbridge, but in the meantime has been relaxing this summer completing the coast-to coast challenge which is a six-day 105-mile hike.

Annabel Amadin, meanwhile, has been balancing her sporting success alongside her academic studies throughout her Key Stage 4 level of studies.

Annabel (pictured above) is the current Greater Manchester Schools Champion; she was crowned English Schools Champion for Shot Putt during Year 10 and has ambitions to make Team GB at the upcoming U18 European Championships.

One of her sporting highlights was becoming the Northern Champion at Shot Putt in Sheffield this year.

She threw 14m 69cm which was a Championship best performance, securing her place in the history books.

She secured a Grade 9, four 8s and four 7s.

Finally on the individual front, when asked what his three favourite subjects are, Daksh Chohan responded with “Maths, Maths and more Maths”.

Daksh has been a permanent fixture competing in the UK Maths Challenge, the Maths Maclaurin Olympiad and the sixth form level of study competition called “Ritangle”.

Daksh, despite being only in Year 11, has been supporting some of Blue Coat's A level students with their Maths work in sixth form.

He has completed the STEP Day for practicing the entrance exams to Cambridge and has hopes of one day gaining a place at the London School of Economics.

This summer he has independently found work experience with HSBC, Barclays and Morgan Stanley, and this whilst balancing his two other interests of teaching himself Mandarin and photography.

He is heading into sixth form next month.

Blue Coat Headteacher Rob Higgins said: "The achievements of our young people this year are simply incredible, and it was lovely to be able to celebrate with students, staff and parents this morning.

"The disruption this cohort of students experienced to their education over the last two years was unprecedented, but the results they have all achieved demonstrate just how hard they have worked and how well they have been supported by staff and by their families.

"We couldn’t be prouder of the class of 2022.

"Their results alone are fantastic but also seeing them develop into the well-rounded, hardworking, compassionate and caring young adults they have all become in the most challenging of circumstances, has been an absolute privilege to observe.

"We are delighted that so many of our young people will be staying with us for their sixth form studies and wish the entire cohort the best of luck for the future."
