Ann Walker meets the Queen back in 2002
It's been an emotional and poignant week for Chadderton's Marie Walker as the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II brought cherished memories of her own loving mum flooding back.
Ann Walker lived in Failsworth, and as out picture above shows, she was another Oldhamer who was lucky enough to meet the Queen during her incredible 70-year reign as monarch.
Marie, a carer for her son who has special educational needs, told the Chronicle: "Mum met the queen on July 24, 2002.
"She worked at Christie’s Hospital as a tea lady.
"Unfortunately my mum died in 2005, but I am very proud that she got to meet the Queen.
"Myself and my four brothers are all really proud.
"At the time I remember my mum was so excited to meet Her Majesty, and at the same time she was a little nervous.
"When I look at the picture now I just think, wow, my mum met the Queen.
"The picture now is particularly special to me as they are both no longer with us."
