The scene on Belmont Street yesterday
Police are continuing to investigate a shooting in Oldham on Monday night (September 19) which thankfully saw no one injured.
Shortly before 11.15pm, officers were called to Belmont Street after a man was reported to have been shot at on the street by three men wearing balaclavas.
The men are thought to have been involved in an earlier incident shortly before on Radcliffe Street, where threats have been made with a firearm.
No arrests have been made and an investigation led by Oldham CID is underway.
Police had a cordon in place where the incident is believed to have occurred for much of the day yesterday, and officers have thanked the local community for their co-operation and patience so far.
At this stage investigators have been able to confirm at least three shots were fired on Belmont Street.
The motive is currently unknown, but police suspect the victim was not the intended target and investigators are keeping an open-mind.
Officers are continuing to patrol the area and ask anyone with concerns or information to speak to police.
Detective Inspector Madaleine Atherton, from Oldham CID, said: “We’re moving at pace to establish what has caused this brazen and shocking attack, and to ensure that anyone involved is found and interrogated about it.
“Our officers have been out speaking to people in the community and we share their sense of shock about what has happened, but we want to send a strong message that gun crime is deplorable and we will do all we can to drive out such violence in Oldham.
“We have seen the devastating consequences of guns being carried and used in our region all too recently, and while thankfully no one was injured, it does not diminish the seriousness in which we are treating this – therefore any information the public has must be shared with us.”
