Estate agent Alan and his band give England their tuneful backing with awesome new charity song

Date published: 02 December 2022

Well-known local estate agent Alan Kirkham has rekindled his passion for music and football by releasing an original new song - 'Let's Bring The World Cup Home' - to coincide with the Qatar 2022 showpiece.

Alan is now 68, but he has always been a huge fan of music and football, and so he and his pals have put together a band - 'Boundary Park Life' - and released the single, which will hopefully go on to raise much-needed funds for head trauma charity, Head for Change.

Head for Change is a start up charitable foundation, pioneering positive change for brain health in sport and supporting ex-players who are affected by neurodegenerative disease as a result of their professional sporting career in football or rugby.

Alan told the Chronicle: "There's six of us involved in the band and the song, and we all follow Latics.

"For me personally, I love football, and have done since my playing days in the Oldham Sunday League as a teenager.

"I've always had an interest in music too, so now that I'm pretty much semi-retired, my imagination sometimes runs away with me.

"I've written poems and songs before, but I thought about putting this song together when the World Cup was coming up.

"I spoke to Chris Taylor (owner of Shure 5 Studios in Royton) and we put a demo together, and now we've recorded the song and released it.

"So far the reception has been great, and I have got some re-written lyrics ready just in case England reach the latter stages of the World Cup, or maybe even win it!

"There's a strong message behind the song, though, and that's very important to us all.

"I sing about lots of the old players, some of whom will know former players who have been affected by brain injuries which maybe started during their playing days.

"I can remember as a teenager playing football with those awful heavy balls.

The rest of the band are (from left) Chris Taylor, Simon (Stan) Matthews, Phil Lord, Mick Jones and Mark Stelfox

"Particularly when they were wet, they nearly knocked you out when you headed them."

A number of popular local musicians have been involved in Alan's Boundary Park Life project.

Alongside Alan featuring on the 'Let's Bring The World Cup Home' track are Shure 5 owner Chris, who also doubled up as producer, Mick Jones, Mark Stelfox, Simon Matthews and Phil Lord.

"We're all thrilled to bits with the finished song," added Alan.

England are progressing nicely in the World Cup tournament.

Gareth Southgate's men play Senegal in the last 16 stage on Sunday night (7pm kick-off) after comfortably negotiating the group stage.
