A committed wildlife champion is on a “paper chase” to help save injured hedgehogs.

Sue Ashworth, a retired nurse with 39 years experience, runs a wild hedgehog rescue – Hog Manor in Delph.

She cares for hedgehogs from Greater Manchester and, in addition, takes rescued hedgehogs from the RSPCA and local vets.

She says: “To date, I have rescued nearly 400 hedgehogs.  The rescue aims to treat and rehabilitate hedgehogs then release them back into the wild.

“The rescue is totally self funded but I do rely on the public for donations especially cat food and newspapers.”

Now, Sue is appealing for a regular supply of newspapers to line the cages and shredded for their nest.

"Even though there is heating in the rescue I have used more newspapers than normal during this cold snap and  I am running desperately low,” she explained.

“There are currently 22 hedgehogs in the rescue being treated for various ailments and they  all require  daily cleaning. Giving newspapers would be greatly appreciated.

"And if you can donate cat food, preferably poultry in jel, would be very helpful.”

To donate: call at the rescue, placing in the box at the end of her garden Hog Manor, 20 Delph Lane, Delph, OL3 5HX.
