Waterhead Academy hosted the 2023 Oldham borough Holocaust Memorial Service.

Delegates who attended the event included The Mayor of Oldham, Cllr Elaine Garry, Oldham East and Saddleworth MP Debbie Abrahams, members of Oldham’s Interfaith Forum, Oldham Pride, Oldham Youth Council, and other civic dignitaries.

During the service The Mayor, Rabbi Daniel Walker and Ryan Kessebeh (Manchester United Football Club-School Partnership Officer) all delivered heartfelt speeches alongside an inspirational performance facilitated by members of the Oldham Youth Council and Oldham Theatre Workshop.

In addition, student ambassadors from Waterhead Academy paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the Holocaust and the devastating genocides that followed in Columbia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.

A minute’s reflection delivered by Rabbi Daniel Walker alongside a poem and candle lighting by Academy students brought a memorable Commemorative service to a close.

Mr N Wilson, Assistant Principal for Personal Development at Waterhead Academy, said: "We value the role that Waterhead Academy plays within our community and we were honoured to host the 2023 Holocaust Memorial Event.

"I would like to express my gratitude to students, colleagues and delegates for their fantastic contributions to the commemorative event."
