Police appeal for witnesses to a serious road accident that left a young child with life-threatening injuries

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision that occurred on York Street in nearby Heywood on Friday night (February 10).
Officers were called to the scene at 7.45pm, to reports of a young child, a pedestrian, being hit by a vehicle near to the junction with Hartley Street.
Ambulance colleagues were also on scene to assess the child, who was subsequently taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed for several hours whilst investigations were carried out, before being reopened.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving whilst the investigation it the collision continues.
Police officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have CCTV/dashcam footage in the area around the time of the accident, to contact the Serious Collision (SCIU) Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, quoting log number 003102-10022023.
