Failsworth Royal British Legion branch is re-born after 45 years

Date published: 16 February 2023

The Failsworth branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL), formerly the British Legion, has been re-born after more than 40 years, and was re-launched at a special event this week.

The Royal British Legion is a British charity providing financial, social and emotional support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants, as well as all others in need.

Since the closure of the Failsworth branch in 1978, this will have been a welcoming sight to see for the local community.

A Failsworth branch spokesperson said: "We have just had a first meeting and are planning a number of events for the local community to get together and have a good time, while offering support to our local veterans and serving soldiers.

"The support that we have in place, and the network of help from the legion, will be invaluable for the community.

"Failsworth Remembrance Sunday is one of the biggest in the Borough, with thousands turning up.

"We will have a brand new standard on show celebrating this remarkable opening of the new Royal British Legion, failsworth branch.

"Our meetings will take place on every third Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm, at the Home Guard club in Failsworth."

The branch can be found on Facebook - just search for Royal British Legion, Failsworth branch.
