Staff and families at Richmond Academy are celebrating a glowing OFSTED report.

The academy was inspected in January and retains its ‘Good’ grading, with commendation for the school’s approach to building children’s role as “active citizens in the local community.”

The Coldhurst school was also praised for its “calm classrooms” which helps “pupils to achieve well.”

Principal Claire Rahman said: “We are incredibly proud of all our pupils at Richmond and we were delighted that inspectors praised them for “their respectful and kind” attitude to each other and staff.

"Our staff and pupils have worked together to develop a sense of the children’s role in society and the importance of tolerance and respect for others.”

Inspectors went on to compliment the “passion” teachers have for reading in the school and creating a “culture where reading is at the heart of every classroom.”

The Harmony Trust Director of Education Jessica Hainsworth said: “This is an excellent report for an academy that has continued to go from strength-to-strength since its sponsorship by The Harmony Trust.

"The success of our ‘Read, Achieve, Succeed’ strategy was underlined as a key driver of children’s reading attainment at Richmond and the school will retain a vital role in the development of this approach.”

Inspectors also highlighted the strength of the curriculum at the school, stating that “School leaders have taken care to design a curriculum which incorporates the knowledge, skills and experiences that the pupils at the school need” as well as describing it as “ambitious” for its pupils with SEND.

The Coldhurst academy was sponsored by The Harmony Trust in 2014 after being graded “Inadequate” in an inspection in 2012.

The Academy was subsequently graded “good” in a full inspection in 2017.

Richmond Academy caters for children from the age of 2-11.

The school joined ‘The Harmony Trust’ in 2014 as a converter academy.

The Harmony Trust is a multi-academy and school-led organisation based in Oldham, Tameside and Derby.

The Trust was set up in February 2014 with its core aim being to raise attainment in local schools.

The Trust has the highest aspirations for its pupils, parents and staff members.
