British Transport Police officers are appealing for the victim of a sexual assault to contact them.
Last Monday (May 8), a 25-year-old man was arrested at Manchester Piccadilly station, following reports from witnesses that a sexual assault had taken place on the 6.44pm East Midlands service from Nottingham to Manchester.
It is believed the sexual assault occurred shortly before 8.30pm when the train was travelling between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly stations.
The victim left the station before officers attended and they are keen to speak to her about what happened.
Investigating officer DC Matt Morrison said: “Officers met the train at Manchester Piccadilly after receiving reports from people travelling on the service that a man had sexually assaulted a woman.
“All victims of sexual offences are given full anonymity and will be supported by specially trained police officers.
“If you witnessed this assault, or if it happened to you, please do contact us and our officers will be able to help.”
Please contact British Transport Police by calling 0800 40 50 40, or by texting 61016 with the reference 2300052277.
Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
