New audiology service comes to Oldham

Date published: 17 June 2023

A new audiology service has been launched in the community.

Specsavers Home Visits will provide expert hearing services to people who are unable to visit their high street stores.

Specsavers Oldham Home Visits has delivered vision care within the homes of people throughout the area since July 2022, but this new service means they can now offer free home hearing checks, conducted by a fully qualified audiologist.

The team is headed by customer service director Rachael Jones, who has been with Specsavers for more than 23 years as well as audiologist, and hearcare director, Humairaa Omer.

It will cover an area taking in Oldham, Glossop, and Chapel-en-le-Firth, across to Huddersfield, Holmfirth and Denby Dale, encompassing a total of 45 postcodes.

Specsavers Oldham Home Visits optometrist director, Navjeet Sandher, said: "We’re delighted to be extending our Home Visits service to include audiology.

"It was a natural progression as the same people who find it difficult to visit Specsavers stores for an eye test, naturally struggle to visit for a hearing check."

Customer service director, Rachel Jones, added: "We can now ensure that all customers receive the same level of expert hearing and eyecare in their own homes, as they would in one of our stores.

"Undiagnosed hearing loss can be isolating and for people who already find it difficult to leave their home, it can be a real trigger for loneliness."

Customers will have access to the same high level of customer service and care they would receive in a Specsavers store.

The team will offer a wide range of audiology services, including hearing assessments, fitting and management of hearing aids, rehabilitation and follow up appointments.

Customers can choose between NHS or private services for greater convenience, faster access to treatment, more personalised care, and a large choice of great-value products, including hearing aids.

In addition to working with Specsavers stores across the region, the team will liaise with GP surgeries, care providers and community groups to help make hearcare accessible to all.

What’s more, it will be delivered by dedicated, highly skilled, compassionate clinicians who can make a real difference to the lives of the people they visit.

Rachael and her team will visit between 20-30 customers a week, with plans to increase capacity within the next few months.

Specsavers Oldham Home Visits will support those who are unable to get out and about, including those who are house bound, in sheltered accommodation, care homes or special care facilities.
