Walking, cycling or wheeling to school? You could win a £50 voucher

Oldham Council wants to hear about your experiences when it comes to walking, cycling and wheeling to school.

The council is currently carrying out a boroughwide audit of all active travel facilities in a 2 km area around every primary and secondary school.

As part of it, officers want to gather the views of schools, teachers, parents, residents and business owners.

Tell them the key issues, opportunities and types of improvements you would like to see to make active travel to schools safer and more accessible.

The council also want to know about the barriers/obstacles people face, which stops them from travelling actively.

The results of this audit will help the council come up with a priority list of improvement schemes.

Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: “The council wants to cut the number of vehicles being used on the school run and get people more active.

“If we can do that then we’ll be cutting pollution and congestion and making our roads safer.

“We have facts and figures from our own surveys but now we want to hear your views. They are important and will help form the future of active travel in the borough.”

The council is already introducing measures to make the roads around our schools safer through School Streets.

The first pilot scheme has gone live at St Anne’s Primary School, Royton.

Anyone who takes part is in with a chance of winning one of three £50 vouchers for a local business or restaurant.
