Oldham firearms incident - brothers are charged with attempted murder

The charges are in relation to an alleged incident which took place last Wednesday (July 5), where a firearm was believed to have been discharged just before 8pm around Henshaw Street and Horsedge Street in Oldham
Two brothers have been charged with attempted murder following a firearms discharge incident in Oldham last week.
Daniel Whelan (aged 31), of Unsworth Way in Oldham, and Alex Whelan (26), of Great Gable Close, have been charged with attempted murder and an offence under the Firearms Act.
Both men have been remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court later today (Monday).
These charges are in relation to an alleged incident which took place on Wednesday (July 5), where a firearm was believed to have been discharged just before 8pm around Henshaw Street and Horsedge Street in Oldham.
Chief Superintendent Philip Hutchinson, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: “Our investigation into the discharge of a potential firearm is moving at pace.
“We would like to thank members of the public for supporting our investigation - officers have been working tirelessly to follow lines of enquiries.
“This is believed this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community.
"Thankfully, no one was injured.
