'Dangerous' man wanted for fraud offences found hiding in a shed in Shaw

Date published: 03 September 2023

Following an extensive effort both overtly and covertly to locate a wanted male from Oldham, Greater Manchester Police officers have successfully located a male wanted on a suspicion of several offences of fraud by false representation.

The suspect's mode of operating was to directly target elderly and vulnerable people by means of doorstep fraud, scamming people out of money in exchange to do work to their home which never was completed.

It is believed that a total of approximately £5,000 has been fraudulently taken from multiple victims across the Oldham district.

GMP officers in the Oldham district were able to locate and arrest the suspect in the early hours of yesterday (Saturday) after he was found hiding in a shed in Shaw.

Today (Sunday), Daniel Mather (aged 39) of Longfellow Crescent in Oldham, was charged with two counts of fraud by false representation and remanded into custody.

He will attend Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday).

Chief Superintendent Phil Hutchinson, GMP Oldham’s District Commander, said: “I would firstly like to extend my thoughts to those who have been affected by this man’s terrible and deceitful actions.

"We are doing everything we can to ensure those affected receive support and justice following these incidents.

"Thanks to the publics invaluable support, sharing the wanted appeal, and providing crucial intelligence, it has all played a pivotal role in this positive outcome.

"Furthermore, I want to praise our officers excellent work in collating the intelligence and locating this individual quickly before any further harm could have been done.

"Our officer’s determination to protect our communities led to the successful arrest of this wanted and dangerous individual and he will remain in custody until we complete our enquiries."
