Awesome Steve returns to class following his epic 14 marathon challenge

Date published: 06 September 2023

Charity fundraiser extraordinaire and Shaw deputy headteacher Steve Hill MBE is now back in school after completing his latest epic marathon challenge.

Steve, the deputy headteacher at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Shaw, told the Chronicle: "Firstly I ran seven marathons across Costa Rica (running from the Pacific Coast to the Caribbean Coast) through numerous jungles, where I encountering snakes, spiders, ants and even crocodiles!

"I then flew to Tajikistan in the Eastern Hemisphere and ran seven more marathons across the country from the Afghanistan border to the China border along the Silk Road through the Bartang Valley in temperatures above 40 degrees - it was brutal.

"It still hasn’t all fully sunk in yet as I only arrived home on Friday and was straight back to school this week.

"I’m raising money for Team Hill Charitable Trust to help make a difference in the world - but I also hope that my adventures inspire the children that I have the great privilege of teaching in some small way and show then that through self-belief, hard work and determination and never giving up when things get tough - anything is possible.

"I want them to have their own big dreams and not be afraid to chase them.

"I’d like to thank everyone for their amazing support and encouragement throughout the summer as I took on this huge challenge.

"Now, bring on the next challenge, wherever that may take me. Watch this space!"

Steve was featured on ITV's Granada Reports yesterday evening (Tuesday), when he chatted with Paul Crone all about his recent adventures.

Steve's Team Hill Charitable Trust works to help Oldhamers and Ugandans.

The charity is currently helping to build a school in Uganda.
