Sixteen OMRT members were involved for eight hours overnight
Last Thursday evening, Oldham Mountain Rescue Team received a request from Greater Manchester Police, asking for assistance with the search for a missing high risk male in the Ogden/Piethorne Valley area, near Newhey.
Due to the size and topography of the area, the Oldham contingent called in neighbouring team, Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team, along with three search dogs from Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England.
All teams searched throughout the night in extremely poor conditions, with visibility next to zero much of the time.
They stood down at 6,30am having not located the missing person.
Many of the searchers then grabbed a couple of hours rest before heading back out to their day jobs.
Happily, the teams received an update from GMP the following day saying the missing person had been located safe and well.
Sixteen OMRT members, eight from Colne Valley Search and Rescue Team and three dogs and handlers from Mountain Rescue Service Dogs England, were involved for eight hours overnight.
