This morning (Tuesday), police officers from the Money Laundering team in GMP’s Economic Crime Unit, alongside officers and staff from other teams in the unit, executed four simultaneous warrants across Oldham in a bid to disrupting organised crime by targeting suspected criminal finance.
Two men between the ages of 33 and 42 and two women both aged 40 were arrested on suspicion of money laundering - they all remain in custody ahead of being questioned by specialist officers.
The activity this morning is a part of the Economic Crime Unit week of action running from the January 29 – February 5, 2024 highlighting the continued work that is being done to target criminal finances in Greater Manchester.
Following a search of the properties, officers seized £10,000 in cash and designer clothing worth approximately £5,000.
Detective Sergeant Pete Goddard, of GMP’s Money Laundering Team, said: “It is so important that we conduct this sort of activity regularly to target those suspected of money laundering and the action this morning is a result from months of robust work by detectives in the unit as part of a continued crackdown on suspected organised criminal finances in the region which blights our local communities.
"Illicit cash and assets that have come from the product of criminality and are usually a catalyst for more serious crime and today's activity is another positive step to disrupting organised crime in a bid to make Greater Manchester a safer place to live, work and visit.
"As always, we would ask that anyone with information or anyone with concerns to contact us as we work to disrupt serious crime across the region.
"Intelligence from members of the public continuously helps us with our on-going investigations - no matter how small the information may seem it could prove to be vital."
