Police issue witness appeal following Oldham town centre assault on 16-year-old boy

Police officers have appealed for information following an assault in Oldham town centre.

At around 4.30pm on January 17, 2024, officers were called to reports of an assault that took place at a tram stop on Kings Street in Oldham town centre.

Through enquiries, it has been established that the victim, a 16-year-old boy, had been on a tram traveling from King Street tram stop in Oldham town centre where he was speaking to an unknown man.

Detectives believe they both got off the tram two stops later at Freehold tram stop in Chadderton.

The unknown man has taken a phone call and then walked down the stairs of the tram stop, and when reaching the bike sheds have come across three other men.

The victim was then pushed to the floor before being punched repeatedly and being asked for his phone.

The victim attended hospital with superficial injuries to his face, hands and knees where he received treatment.

Officers are appealing for help to identify the man pictured as he may be able to help with enquiries, or if you were in the area or saw anything to please get in touch.
