Students at E-ACT The Oldham Academy North (TOAN) in Royton have honoured their teachers during this year’s Thank a Teacher Day.
At TOAN, part of the E-ACT family of 29 academies, teachers received over 80 postcards from the Headteacher Jessica Giraud with a personalised message.
Students also filled out thank you cards with messages of gratitude to show their teachers how much their hard work is appreciated.
The postcards from students included heartfelt messages such as, “Thank you for being the best form tutor – always there for me!’ and "You are an amazing and wonderful teacher! And the best part is you believe in equality. Thank you so much sir!"
Special recognition was given to Ruth Webb, a history teacher in just her second year of teaching.
Earlier this term, Ruth discovered she had been awarded a Certificate of Excellence in the Pearson National Teaching Awards in the Outstanding New Teacher of the Year category.
Thirteen other teachers and staff members who received nominations for E-ACT’s own Staff Impact Awards were also commended and presented with certificates and badges.
Associate Assistant Headteacher Sajia Sultana and Headteacher Jessica Giraud (pictured above) have both been named finalists in the Impact and Headteacher of the Year categories of the awards respectively and will discover next month whether they have won.
Ms Giraud said: “In a profession where the demands can be immense, it's essential to pause and acknowledge the incredible work that our teachers do day in and day out.
"Each note penned was a small token of appreciation for their dedication and unwavering commitment to our students' success.
“We’re incredibly proud of all our teachers and staff at E-ACT TOAN, and our achievements really are collective ones. Ruth Webb and Sajia Sultana deserve a personal mention as well though this year for their achievements in this year’s Pearson National Teaching Awards and E-ACT’s Staff Impact Awards.
"Their awards success is very much deserved.”
Karen Rose, director of partnerships and organisational development at E-ACT, added: ”At E-ACT we recognise the huge impact our amazing teaching staff have on pupils' futures.
"Their unwavering commitment helps to shape the futures of countless young lives.
"Pearson’s Thank a Teacher Day provides us with another opportunity to recognise their tireless efforts and express our heartfelt appreciation for the invaluable contributions they make to our communities.
"We are looking forward to celebrating again the amazing achievements of E-ACT staff at our own awards too.”
