Neil Wilson, Assistant Principal for Personal Development at Waterhead Academy, completed the recent Greater Manchester 10k run and raised funds for one of the Academy’s appointed charities; NorthCare.
Mr Wilson has so far raised more than £600 (including Gift Aid) for the charity.
Waterhead Academy has worked in partnership with NorthCare throughout recent years and collectively both staff and students have contributed to supporting a range of charitable initiatives throughout the region.
Shelley Owen, Challenge Events Fundraiser from North Care, said: “We’re so grateful to Neil for taking on this year’s Great Manchester Run in support of Oldham Hospital.
"Supporters like Neil help us raise vital funds so we can continue to make a difference to people’s lives across Greater Manchester and beyond.
“It is a pleasure to continue our partnership with Waterhead Academy, who’s students and staff have been involved in various charitable initiatives over recent years.
"Anyone interested in taking on a challenge to raise funds for their local NHS charity should contact Team NorthCare - we’d love to hear from you.”
Initiatives have included visiting the Royal Oldham Hospital to perform Christmas carols for staff and patients, participating in the Christmas Card appeal whereby students have sent Christmas cards to NHS staff and patients, facilitating the knitting for “neo-nates” campaign and regularly delivering cakes and chocolates for staff at the hospital to show appreciation for the amazing work that they undertake.
Mr Wilson said: "I am immensely proud of all of our staff and students for the continued support and dedication that they demonstrate in supporting with the wide range of community initiatives that our Academy participates in.
“Our students are the ‘changemakers’ of the future and our Personal Development programme provides them with a range of opportunities to positively contribute to their local community.
"I would also like to thank Jessica Pollard and Shelley Owen from NorthCare for their support in developing our Academy’s links with NorthCare."
