New Saddleworth Rotary leaders announced

Clint Elliott, a former police officer, has been appointed the new president of Saddleworth Rotary Club.

He served with Cleveland Police for 35 years with a career split almost equally between front line policing in the urban areas of Stockton and Middlesbrough and as full time representative of the Police Federation locally, regionally and nationally. 

His career culminated in his appointment as the General Secretary of the Police Federation, a position he held on his retirement in 2005. 

Since moving to Saddleworth the same year, Clint was employed by the National Association of Retired Police Officers as Chief Executive Officer until retiring  in 2016.

Clint has been a very active member of Saddleworth Rotary Club for over 10 years.

Currently he takes the lead on the committee which, along with Oldham Metro Rotary Club, arranges and manages the Wellifest Music Festival and Saddleworth Show.

These events raise significant money each year for each Club to donate to worthy charitable causes.

Supporting Clint at the Club will be newly-appointed Vice Chair, Bob Fenton, a local Oldham man and former solicitor, with a range of experience across the profession.

He specialised in the commercial and industrial side of law immediately prior to his retirement. 

He has been a member of Rotary more than 20 years, initially with Oldham Rotary Club, where he was President in 2005/6, and more recently with the Saddleworth Club. 

Speaking about his appointment, Clint said: “We are a small Club, but the effort we put into our annual Wellifest Music Festival and Saddleworth Show in partnership with Oldham Metro Rotary Club has enable us to raise very significant money for charity over the years.”

Mr Fenton echoed Clint’s aim, saying: “Being Vice-President is a great opportunity to use my experience both within and outside Rotary to help good causes in the community.

"I am looking forward to the challenge."

Jon Stocker, a former senior manager at Diode Ltd, who stood down as president, had a very productive year at Saddleworth Rotary engaging with the local community and donating around £10,000 to charities mainly locally, but including some charities with local connections, which provide services internationally.

He said: "I am hoping we can continue to identify those in need to help them out with the proceeds of this year’s events.

"We are always looking for new members to help us in this work so please contact us if you would like to know more about Rotary.”
