Oldham town centre Post Office closure: Council must explore all options, insists Sykes

The Post Office at WH Smiths in Oldham town centre is set to close in early May
Oldham Liberal Democrat Leader councillor Howard Sykes MBE has expressed concern over the looming closure of the Post Office at WH Smiths in Oldham town centre.
The Shaw councillor said that many people rely on the Post Office – especially older residents – and urged the Council to look to provide alternatives quickly.
Councillor Sykes said: “A lot of people use the post office every week.
"It’s a big loss to the town centre, especially for older residents.
"The Council must talk with the high street retailers to see what sort of temporary provision could be put in place even if it’s only a kiosk in another shop.
"The Post Office should provide clarity on its long term plan for Oldham town centre.”
The WH Smiths branch in Oldham – which houses the post office – is set to close on May 3.
