Donald's head was thrown in the river
A school charity has issued a heartfelt appeal for visitors to leave hand-build scarecrows alone after an effigy of Donald Trump’s head was stolen.
Originally, the head on a smartly dressed dummy of the American President was thrown into a river at Diggle, which is hosting the annual Scarecrow Trail fundraiser for the village school and features 26 scarecrows on display until a Monday, April 21.
This year's theme is “heroes and villains” and the trail, which wends it’s way through homes and gardens, features a tribute to local heroes including Kevin Sinfield and the RNLI.
But after surviving two earlier attacks, Donald Trump’s head was stolen yesterday (Sunday), trail organiser Tracy Buckley revealed.
Earlier she said: “Santa and Donald Trump dummies have had their heads ripped off again - Donald was thrown in the river.
“Although we had initially a laugh about Donald Trump, it really is disgraceful people think it’s ok to damage other people’s hard work.
“Pretty sad people, really!
"So if anyone has seen anything whether it’s kids messing about or adults, please let us know.
“And please leave the scarecrows alone - it’s not that difficult if you are a normal person with morals.”
In a sheaf of responses condemning the attacks, one said: ”Disgusting! Not only vandalism and a lack of respect for the creators efforts but also spoiling the enjoyment of others.
"The trail is so much fun for all ages.
"We had the best day yesterday.
“A huge thank you to all the people who make and put on the event.
"It’s only our second year coming but we will come back for as long as it’s on.”
