The Boundary Parkas, who released the official 2025 Road to Wembley Song for Latics, saw their own dreams come true when Wembley Stadium played ‘Life a Blue’ over the tannoy system on Sunday.
A song written by Kieran McMahon and produced by the band was used to rally thousands of fans in celebration after Latics came back from behind in extra time in the Vanarama National League play-off final against Southend in London.
A song about a lad and dad going to watch Oldham together on a bustling match day, with references to the clubs past hardships, a celebration of the club’s rich history and portrayal of the club’s hopeful future was what brought fans together during the days most poignant moments.
With lyrics rooted in generational fandom and the use of regional staples like Millstone Brewery and J.W. Lees stout, the band managed to channel the heart and soul of the town they love.
With their own unique take on nostalgia, brass laden crescendos, and terrace ready choruses, the anthem successfully provided a narrative to the closing end of the season.
The song was released just days after the 'Tics monumental victory against York away in the semi-final of the play-off competition.
With such a short time frame the boys in the band didn’t know if people would take to it in time for the final.
The band said: “We couldn’t believe it, our dream had come true.”
The Parkas had to rush back to perform at Oldham’s Nightclub Liquid and Envy that night as they were booked to perform an Oldham classics party set.
Jumping in a cab straight from Manchester Piccadilly station at 12.30am to the discotheque on Oldham’s Retiro Street, they arrived and headed straight to the DJ booth to take the mic at 1am.
Celebrations ran into the daylight hours where the players themselves made a surprise appearance to a roaring applause from delighted fans.
The cup made its way around the dance floor whilst Kieran knocked out a mix of northern favourites, football classics and 'Owd’um' party stompers.
The following morning an even bigger celebration party was brewing.
Party at The Park, spearheaded by Mark A Smith and Dale Harris, was to kick off at 5pm on Monday at Boundary Park.
Free tickets were offered as a thank you to the fans for their loyalty over the course of the last 30 years.
Frank Rothwell, the charismatic and much-loved co-owner of Latics was overcome with emotion when speaking on Sky Sports News and told local businesses that they may as well forget opening for the next few days as the party will be going on all week.
Rather fittingly the group to kick start the party was none of than the Boundary Parkas.
A star-studded evening of entertainment which included an operatic performance by Victor Michael blowing the crowds away with Nessun Dorma, a high energy set by Sam Smith and a performance by Derkers own Two Connors to close of the evening.
The players repeatedly received mass cheers all night long, and deservedly so.
The Boundary Parkas tailored a special set to take locals on a trip down memory lane, playing a mix of original material centred around the town, Oldham Tinkers hits, football singalongs, chippy tea delights and of course ‘Life a Blue’.
The Boundary Park house band songwriter Kieran wants to offer the people of Oldham the opportunity to book him to be able to continue to share the song with the town and celebrate the biggest thing that has happened for the town in his lifetime.
