More suspects arrested as police probe into non-recent child sex exploitation in Oldham moves forward

Date published: 26 June 2025

Two men - aged 38 and 40 - were arrested on suspicion of the rape of a child by specialist police officers this morning (Thursday).

The warrants were executed as part of Operation Sherwood, a dedicated investigation into abuse that GMP chiefs believe a number of girls experienced in Oldham between 2011 and 2014.

Officers are working closely with the victims and survivors at the heart of these investigations.

Today's activity was planned after detectives identified a potential survivor and approached her about the case.

Detectives in GMP's dedicated CSE Major Incident Team, responsible for investigating the most serious and complex cases involving offences against vulnerable young people, are working tirelessly to build strong evidential packages and follow all possible lines of enquiry.

This work is moving forward with vigour as police actively pursue justice.

This morning (Thursday), specialist officers executed two warrants at properties in Oldham.

Two men – aged 38 and 40 – were arrested on suspicion of rape of a child.

Assistant Chief Constable Steph Parker, lead for Protecting Vulnerable People, said: “We are working closely with the victims and survivors at the heart of these investigations.

"They’ve placed their faith in us, and we must get this right for them.

“We will not allow the passage of time to be a barrier, and while these are complex cases, we are doing everything we can to piece together evidence and build strong case files to help secure the justice they deserve.

“Protecting children is our priority, and we are committed to finding anyone who has harmed vulnerable young people and holding them to account.

“Within the last three months, we have arrested 12 suspects as part of Operation Sherwood.

“These investigations have been ramping up and this momentum will continue as we trace, find, and lock up suspects.”
