A man from Oldham has been jailed for 21 months after police uncovered a quantity of drugs and cash during a routine arrest at his home.
Callum Johnson (aged 19) of Vulcan Street, Oldham, was arrested after officers attended his address in connection with an investigation around an affray and criminal damage.
The arrest, which came on March 4 this year, caught Johnson unaware and asleep in his bedroom at the time of the officers’ visit.
During the search, officers found approximately £1,500 in cash, cannabis and weighing scales inside of a shoebox hidden under his bed.
A separate plastic bag containing five golf ball-sized rocks of white powder, later confirmed to be crack cocaine, was also discovered and had an estimated street value of up to £2,190.
Each rock can produce approximately 20-30 wraps – upwards of 150 in total.
A mobile phone was also recovered during the search which, when analysed, showed drug-related messages, with it being identified as the ‘Turbo line’.
A large amount of ‘flare’ messages shown the line advertising class A drugs for sale on a daily basis.
Johnson was sentenced yesterday (Friday) at Minshull Street Crown Court after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs at an earlier hearing.
DC Michelle Lomax, of GMP's Organised Crime Unit, said: “This case highlights the vigilance and professionalism of our officers who uncovered a dangerous cache of drugs, cash and a weapon while executing an arrest for an unrelated crime.
“It sends a clear message to criminal across Greater Manchester: no matter how much time has passed, we will relentlessly pursue all those involved in criminal activity until they are brought to justice.
“GMP remains committed to protecting our communities and will continue to target those who seek to profit from drug crime.
"We urge anyone with information about criminal activity.”
