First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) has been granted an injunction with power of arrest and evicted an Oldham woman following multiple incidents of violence, anti-social behaviour and harassment.
Veronica Rouse was stopped from verbally abusing, causing a noise nuisance and violently threatening residents and FCHO staff where she lived in Sedgemoor Way following a hearing at Manchester County Court.
Residents put up with numerous incidents at the hands of 52-year-old Rouse, including one where she brandished a large knife outside a neighbour's property.
She has been subject to four other injunctions since 2019.
FCHO supported residents and worked with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to stop Rouse and she spent considerable time in prison for breaching the injunctions against her as well as other criminal offences.
The judge granted the latest injunction,
in force until 2027, on June 23 under Section 4 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. FCHO then moved to evict Rouse for rent arrears and this took place on July 8.
If she is seen in the area, residents should call the police.
“This has been a complex and challenging case that started with minor issues but then gradually developed to be more serious, and we would like to thank the residents of Sedgemoor Way for their patience and bravery in the face of this woman’s appalling behaviour,” said FCHO chief executive Mark Gifford.
“FCHO, Oldham Council and GMP have worked together and used all available legal channels and powers to limit Rouse’s actions, remove her into custody and eventually evict her.
“One of the biggest challenges and frustrations residents and the authorities faced was that Rouse was manipulative and used the health system to her advantage and this made taking eviction action difficult.
“However, no FCHO customer should have to put up with people like Rouse.
"We are acting all the time to stop those who want to make others’ lives a misery.
"We continue to take all ASB reports seriously and we will do all we can to ensure it is stopped while working with our partners and within what the law allows us to do.”
