Crompton House students excel again on A Level results day

Date published: 14 August 2025

Crompton House Sixth Form students have once again achieved an outstanding set of A Level results.

50% of students achieved all A*- B grades, with 22% getting a clean sweep of A* or As.

Over 40% of students achieved at least one A* or A grade and 79% of grades awarded were A*- C.

Mr Smith, Head of Sixth Form, said: “I am delighted with both the overall results and what this means for the individual students and their future destinations.

"50% of our students achieving A*-B grades is fantastic, and our provisional Alps progress figure of a 2, puts us in the top 10% of KS5 providers in terms of value added.”

These results have meant that well over 90% of students who applied to university have been successful at meeting their firm or insurance choice offers.

Many other students will now be moving on to Degree Apprenticeships or Apprenticeships, including Ruby Whittingham, one of CHS’s top achieving students, Maths A, Further Maths A, Sociology A*, who is now starting her highly competitive Degree Apprenticeship at KPMG.

Other successful applicants from our Apprenticeship cohort include students who are beginning careers in both Law and for the NHS, as well as at local firms.

Many of these students applied for their roles following guest speakers who were invited to visit by Dr Whitworth as part of the CHS Sixth Form Aspire Programme.

Some of CHS’s top performers include Charlotte Harrison (English Literature A*, Sociology A*, History A) who joined Crompton House for Sixth Form and will be moving on to study English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford.

Holly Irvine’s A* in French alongside an A in Spanish and a B in Maths has resulted in her successful application to study French with Business at the University of London Institute in Paris.

Emilia Jaskowska secured the grades she needed to successfully gain entry to Medicine at the University of Leeds (EPQ A*, Chemistry A, Biology B, Maths B), and has already started her academic work there, achieving 82% on her Access to Leeds essay on endometriosis.

Other top achievers include David Almond (Geography A*, Sociology A*, English Language B,) who will be studying Geography at the University of Manchester, joined by William Fedden (Maths A*, Further Maths A*, Physics A*, EPQ A, Computer Science B) reading Computer Science. Zach Dean (Psychology A*, Economics A, Business B) is moving on to Economics at The University of Sheffield; Evelyn Newport (Geography A*, Sociology A*, English Language A, EPQ A*) will be going to Durham University to study Geography; Hannah Budgell (Geography A, Biology A and English Language A) is having a year out in order to decide on her chosen pathway; and Kirsten Bradbury (Sociology A*, Geography A, Psychology A) who will be studying Forensic Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Head of School Susanna Hegarty said: “We are thrilled with the incredible results achieved by our students.

"Today is a proud milestone, marking the end of a remarkable seven-year journey for many.

"Their hard work has paid off, and they truly deserve this success.

"Our thanks go to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and families for the vital role they have played.

"We now look forward to seeing where our students’ next steps will take them, and to celebrate their future achievements.”

Law remains a popular choice for CHS students, with Alexia Metaj, who moved to England with her family in 2019 speaking very little English achieving B grades in both English Language and Literature, alongside a B in Business and an A in her EPQ, starting at the University of York and Gabriella Harding (Government & Politics A*, History A*, English Literature A, EPQ A) studying at the University of Leeds.

Crompton House’s Music Department continues to support students applying for top Music Colleges and Universities, with Rhys Greenwood, who achieved an A grade in Music, going to the University of Manchester and Toby Stott, who plays percussion in some of the top performing youth brass bands in the region as well as in the National Youth Concert Band, starting at the Royal Northern College of Music in the autumn.

Crompton House also have students moving on to BIMM University for both Performing Arts and Music Business, highlighting the variety and versatility of our Performing Arts students.

Crompton House Sixth Form has formed a close relationship with Edge Hill University over the last few years, with their schools liaison team visiting our Careers Fairs and Higher Education Days and a cohort of CHS students were invited onto their Diversity Access Programme.

Consequently, six Crompton House students will be starting at Edge Hill in September studying a diverse range of subjects including Law, Education and Sports Coaching.

Unsurprisingly, given their local proximity we have a significant number of students starting at the universities of Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Huddersfield, Salford, Manchester Metropolitan University and, a little further afield, students attending the University of York in the Geography, Law, and Physics departments.

Lancaster University has proven another popular destination this year, with students moving on to study Politics and International Relations, Fine Art, Accounting and Finance and Law.

The Extended Project Qualification is available to all students at Crompton House Sixth Form and celebrates another year of outstanding achievement, with 100% of EPQ students receiving A*-C grades.

For the first year, the EPQ cohort held a conference poster evening where students created academic posters of their work, exhibiting them to invited family and friends as well as CHS staff and governors.

This was an opportunity for students to experience an academic conference environment and prepare for a challenge they might face at university.

Emilia Jaskowska, whose project on language barriers for non-native speakers accessing medicine achieved full marks, said: "The EPQ has been a great opportunity to explore a topic outside my A Level subjects and it definitely helped my application for Medical School.

"Although the presentation evening was intimidating at first, I really enjoyed talking to people about the work I had done and explaining my project.”

Evelyn Newport also achieved full marks in her paper discussing whether the garment industry was a means of empowering women and irradicating the patriarchy, and Thomas Critchley’s A* project developing a first-person shooter game was an ideal precursor to his next move – studying Games Computing at the University of Lincoln.

Crompton House’s Head Girl, Destiny Duru, also achieved an A* for her project in which she explored the complex ethical issues surrounding power balance for medical professionals.

The diversity of projects completed by our students, from diabetes in dolphins to media influence in high profile cases, along with their top grades, shows the true value of the EPQ as a qualification.

Mr Newell, Executive Head of the Crompton House Multi Academy Trust, said: “This Year 13 cohort has been truly outstanding, and we are thrilled that so many have secured their first-choice destinations.

"Their achievements are a testament to the dedication, perseverance, and talent of both our students and staff.

"The Sixth Form students of Crompton House have demonstrated exceptional ability, inspiration, and character, and we could not be prouder.

"We wish each of them every success as they embark on the next stage of their journey.”
