Students have shown exceptional resilience, commitment and determination throughout their time at Hathershaw
The Hathershaw College celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2025.
The latest cohort began their secondary school journey during the pandemic, starting Year 7 in face coverings, without a transition day, and facing significant disruption to their education.
Despite these challenges, they have shown exceptional resilience, commitment and determination throughout their time at Hathershaw.
Alongside their excellent GCSE results, the Class of 2025 have also made a lasting contribution to the wider school community.
They have broken records in fundraising for charity, excelled in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, and acted as strong role models, supporting younger students with their transition to secondary school.
Whilst staff want to celebrate the results of all of their young people, there are some students who deserve special recognition at Hathershaw, including Roshan Mepani who achieved six grade 9s and three grade 8s, and Alisija Jurkinska who achieved three grade 9s, four grade 8s and three grade 7s.
Ameena Bibi and Rahim Shakeel both received extremely high grades, exceeding all expectations.
Hathershaw College is known for its commitment to inclusion and, as an example, hosts Oldham’s secondary school hearing resource centre.
Rayyan Hussain and Maheen Zahid were both supported by the hearing resource team and performed exceptionally well, including in English, maths and science.
Mark Giles, Hathershaw’s Principal, said: “We are delighted for our hardworking students.
"They have performed so well despite so many challenges during their early secondary school life because of the pandemic.
"This has been a fantastic cohort of students who have supported each other, the wider school and their community.
"Whilst the students have undoubtedly worked hard, it is important to remember the commitment of the teachers and support staff, as well as the strong partnership we have with parents.”
Hathershaw College has also been one of a very small number of schools nationally to pilot the DfE’s app for GCSE results as featured in the local and national news earlier in the year following a visit by Education Minister, Stephen Morgan MP.
Whilst students were attending the school to collect their GCSE results and participate in the celebrations, having their results on the app will provide a permanent and verifiable record of their achievements.
The majority of Hathershaw’s students will now progress to Oldham Sixth Form College (OSFC), also a member of The Pinnacle Learning Trust, which last week celebrated its own record-breaking A-Level results.
