Andy Hadfield and Si Taylor
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team members Andy Hadfield and Si Taylor are hoping to raise funds and awareness for their colleagues in Scottish Mountain Rescue in an epic 1,600 mile road trip.
Having set off on their motorcycles on Saturday (August 23), Si and Andy will attempt a journey to the bases of ALL 24 volunteer Scottish Mountain Rescue teams in just eight days.
This includes visiting not just the Highlands, but several islands too – will they complete it?
The idea for the trip came initially from Nick Ray’s inspirational book, 'Strong Winds Are Forecast', an account of his sea kayaking journey to every RNLI lifeboat station in Scotland.
Also providing motivation was Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s 2004 ‘Long Way Round’ motorcycle adventure – it seemed only right to substitute ’roond’ for ‘round’ as a nod to the ‘Scottishness' of this challenge!
The full details of their trip including the route map plus a daily blog can be found on the dedicated website.
