Oldham MP opens brand new sports facility

Date published: 13 October 2025

Jim McMahon, MP for Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton, joined Oldham Sixth Form College (OSFC) to formally open their brand new Sports Centre.

The general public have already been taking advantage of the new facilities at the site of the former sports pitch at Chapel Road, through a letting facility managed by the college.

Students will begin learning at the new site following the October half-term, where they will be afforded an extensive range of sporting and learning opportunities.

The OSFC Sport Centre expands the college’s campus, supporting its mission to help transform the lives of young people in Oldham.

This development is in line with the general growth and evolution of the sixth form college, following a record high for exam results in 2025 and ever-increasing demand for places.

The impact will be felt most directly by students studying the popular and hugely successful sports courses offered at the college, which include A Level Physical Education and Cambridge Technical qualifications in Sport and Physical Activity.

The access to a state of the art sports pitch in such close proximity to the classroom will provide a wealth of context specific learning opportunities for students.

Mr McMahon inspired those in attendance, saying: “This facility was at the risk of being lost to the community forever, if it were not for the people at OSFC, it is really impressive.

"It will give young people opportunities to learn and develop in a dedicated space that will not only serve as a teaching hub but a place of aspiration.”

He enjoyed a tour of the facilities by sports staff and students, and took time to speak to students about their current college experiences and what they are most looking forward to with their new learning environment.

Suzannah Reeves, OSFC Principal, said: “It’s amazing to be here, seven years in the making and we have seen the completion of this exciting project.

"A result not only for OSFC but also the community, a real opportunity to encourage a passion for sport in young people, as an important part of their lives.”

The Oldham Sixth Form Sports Campus is now open for bookings, should any teams wish to use the facilities.
