Man found dead following Heyside house fire

Forensic investigators were called after a man was found dead at a house where a fire broke out in Heyside this morning (Wednesday).

Emergency services were called to Marches Close, off Oldham Road, with fire crews attending the scene at 5.35am before being joined by police.

Greater Manchester Police have since confirmed that the body of a man was found at the scene at around 6am.

Further details on the circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be established.

A GMP spokesperson confirmed: "Officers responded to reports of a fire at a property off Oldham Road, Royton today (December 3, 2025) at around 6am.

"A body was discovered of a man who sadly died inside the property.

"Enquiries are ongoing at this time."

Firefighters remained at the scene this morning, alongside crime scene investigators.

Numerous fire engines were in attendance earlier this morning, while Oldham Road was closed in both directions.

Multiple GMP and North West Ambulance Service vehicles were also in attendance.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added: "At 5.35am on Wednesday (December 3) three fire engines from Oldham, Hollins and Chadderton, plus the turntable ladder from Manchester Central fire station were called to a fire involving a detached bungalow on Marches Close, Royton.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reel jets to extinguish the fire."
