Mahdlo Youth Zone has launched its 15 for 15 fundraising campaign, with JW Lees Brewery committing £45,000 as its first supporter.

The Middleton-based business has pledged £15,000 a year for three years as Mahdlo marks its 15th anniversary.

The campaign aims to recruit 15 businesses or individuals, each raising or donating £15,000 over its duration, in support of Mahdlo’s work with young people across the borough. The charity is now inviting further supporters to take part.

JW Lees has supported Mahdlo since it opened in 2012, with its Managing Director, William Lees-Jones, serving as its first chairman and helping to establish the Youth Zone in Oldham.

Lucy Lees, Chief Executive Officer of Mahdlo Youth Zone, said: “Reaching 15 years is a major milestone for Mahdlo and reflects the incredible support we have received from our young people, families, staff, volunteers and partners across Oldham.

"As we look ahead, our 15 for 15 campaign is about ensuring we can continue to provide opportunities for young people across the borough.

"We are hugely grateful to JW Lees for leading the way with such a significant commitment and we are now calling on other businesses to stand with us and help secure continued support for young people across Oldham.”

William Lees-Jones, Managing Director of JW Lees, said: “JW Lees is proud to have played a part in bringing a Youth Zone to Oldham and that vision still holds true today.

“The first people to join Mahdlo as members are now adults and Mahdlo has established itself as an important institution in Oldham.

“We set out to create an environment to ‘be here for young people’ and it was wonderful to see HM The King open Horizon, the Grimsby Youth Zone, just a couple of weeks ago.

“It’s never been a better time to get involved with Mahdlo as we celebrate our 15th anniversary since opening.”
