A series of Bonfire Night events are being planned across Oldham with organisers promising ‘spectacular’ shows.

Oldham Council said it had been notified of three events taking place across the borough for Bonfire Night this year. These are all happening on November 7.

These events are Grotton Bonfire and Firework Display at The Grotton Pavilion Community Centre Station Road Grotton OL4 5SF, Woodhouses Cricket Club Bonfire at Woodhouses Cricket Club, Medlock Road M35 9NG, and the Shaw Cricket Club Bonfire at Shaw Cricket Club, Mark Lane, OL2 8QG.

Although it is not hosting any bonfire events itself, Oldham Council as the Greater Manchester Town of Culture is hosting a ‘Feast of Fire’ event in Oldham town centre on October 31.

The council said: “A joint celebration of Halloween and Bonfire Night, this spellbinding event will light up the heart of the town centre with fire dance performances and The Lips Halloween Show by Puppets with Guts followed by a pyrotechnic Halloween fireworks display in the area around Parliament Square from 5.30pm.”

On November 7, the Grotton Bonfire and Firework Display will be held from 6pm to 10am with hot food and a licensed bar. DJ Andy Stott will be playing.

Tickets went on sale on September 21 but sold out earlier this month on October 3. If tickets become available, those who had reserved tickets will be contacted directly.

A post on the Grotton Pavilion’s Facebook page said: “A HUGE thank you to everyone who has bought tickets and supported our biggest fundraising event of the year. We honestly couldn’t have imagined just how quickly tickets would sell this year. Your support has been absolutely incredible!”

In a further comment, the page said: “Please also be aware of scammers. We have already had some fake accounts commenting on our Facebook posts offering Bonfire tickets for sale, which have been removed and reported.

“Tickets are only available as physical tickets — there are no online/e-tickets. Please do not send money to anyone claiming to have tickets available.”

Woodhouses Cricket Club’s event promises to be a ‘fantastic evening’ and an increased budget means spectators should expect ‘another spectacular show’.

A page on the cricket club’s website said: “Our annual Bonfire Night is one of the club’s biggest fundraising events of the year, helping us to continue investing in the club and our cricket and community facilities.”

Early bird tickets are selling at £25 for families which covers two adults and two children. Adult early bird tickets are £10 while it is £6 for children over five.

However this offer ends October 25. After this, family tickets are £30, adult tickets £12, and entry for children over 5 will be £8.

Children under 5 go free but must still be booked. The event has sold out for the last four years and gates will open at 6pm with the bonfire life half an hour later.

Last but not least, Shaw Cricket Club are planning to continue their annual event which has been running for over 25 years. Gates are expected to open at 5.30pm followed by the bonfire being lit at 6pm and firework display at 7.30pm.

Organisers describe the event as ‘one of the area’s biggest and best-loved Bonfire Night celebrations’ and ‘this year promises to be spectacular’ with ‘something for the whole family’.
