Oldham-based housing association moves closer to £6m affordable housing scheme in Werneth

Oldham-based housing association, First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO), and developer Keepmoat Homes have signed a contract to build 36 new homes for affordable rent and improve a redundant area in the Werneth area of the borough.

The new Suthers Court development on Edward Street, north Werneth, will include 36 two, three and four bedroom family homes, along with upgrading to the surrounding area for the benefit of the local community.

The £6million scheme is part of FCHO’s ambitious development programme to provide much needed quality homes in Oldham and has received funding from Homes England. It also forms part of the wider regeneration of the area.

Developer Keepmoat Homes started work on site in November 2019, with the first phase of the build due to be released in summer 2020 and the rest of the homes to be completed by winter 2020.

Heidi Thompson, Executive Director Homes and Investment at FCHO said, “We are committed to providing affordable, quality homes for people in Oldham where there is a significant need and this development will help us deliver on this.

"The project will help to transform the area and we look forward to working with our partner Keepmoat Homes on making a valuable contribution to the local community.”

Simon Miller, Senior Land and Partnerships Manager at Keepmoat Homes Manchester said, “This site represents the completion of our transformative regeneration of the wider area and we are excited to be delivering our final phase of homes for sale, as well as working with FCHO to deliver much needed affordable housing.”
