Oldham tech businesses invited to put themselves forward for Tech Climbers accolade

Date published: 19 June 2023

Tech Climbers has announced its expansion in Greater Manchester, for the first time, after successful campaigns in Yorkshire and Liverpool.

The launch comes as the region’s thriving tech sector is recently reported by DCMS to have raised a record £532 million of funding in 2022.

Tech Climbers is an annual list, profiling the top performing product-led technology businesses in the region.

Through a programme of events and data uncovered in the entry process the initiative will tell a story about how Greater Manchester is competing as an investable, global tech destination.

To date, the project has welcomed a range of partners including tech investors, national advisors, local government, inward investment, and academic institutions.

The initiative has now expanded its footprint to key areas in Greater Manchester to raise the profile of the region’s product led tech sector, enabling more thriving tech businesses to receive recognition for their work.

Tech Climbers Greater Manchester partners this year to date include Brabners, Burns Sheehan, MHA (UK member firm of Baker Tilly), Marks & Clerk, Mercia Asset Management, with associate partners Data City, InnovateHer and Manchester Digital.

Submissions will open for 2023’s inaugural Greater Manchester listing following a launch event on July 19 at Bruntwood’s No.1 Circle Square, which will bring together an insightful line-up of panel discussions featuring funding and investment experts, as well as tech founders from across the region.

Businesses from Manchester, Stockport, Salford, Trafford, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton and Wigan are invited to submit for the 2023 Tech Climber accolade.

Nominations are also invited from the wider business community.

Anna Heyes, CEO at Active Profile and Tech Climbers founder, said: “Tech Climbers is all about celebrating those on the road to scaling their technology.

"Our ambition with Tech Climbers is to profile the brightest and best tech being developed in regions across the UK, creating a view of growth and showcasing the pioneering people behind the products.

"For the last few years, we’ve showcased success in Yorkshire and Liverpool, and now it’s Manchester’s turn.

"We’re looking for companies and brands making a real impact - creating innovative products, solving world problems with a clear commercial model for growth.

“We’ve always kept a close eye on the extraordinary talent that Manchester’s tech industry has on offer and have been blown away by the sheer scale, drive and aspiration here. We’re looking forward to celebrating the region’s tech scene!”

Mo Aldalou, Programme Director at Baltic Ventures and advisor to Tech Climbers, added: “Having worked in the Manchester and wider North West tech cluster over the last seven years, I’ve seen first-hand the incredible businesses that are making a name for themselves - whether that’s in the heart of the city, or in the wider region.

“We know that Manchester has already produced unicorns, and part of our work at Tech Climbers is about putting the spotlight on those businesses who can become a future unicorn!

"There are huge opportunities in the region, and we can’t wait to get started.”
