Saddleworth company highlighted as part of 'extraordinary’ business campaign

Date published: 20 November 2025

A local company that makes high performance safety helmets has been chosen as one of 15 ‘extraordinary’ businesses by GM Business Growth Hub, as part of their campaign to celebrate Greater Manchester as the best place in the UK to do business.

Founded in 1992, Saddleworth-based Future Safety built its name designing and manufacturing personal protective helmets for a variety of industries and now specialises in producing high-performance helmets for sectors that include the emergency services, the military, marine, and sports.

One of their latest developments includes helmets that combine F1 and aerospace technology.

Combining multi-impact protection with a lightweight, compact design not found in the marketplace yet.

Co-founder and Managing Director Colin Holmes credits his team for their success.

He said: “Future Safety isn’t defined by our products alone.

"What makes the company exceptional is the team behind it.

"Every helmet that leaves Future Safety is the result of 16 skilled, committed people who care about getting it right, who take pride in British manufacturing, and who understand that the equipment we build is trusted to protect lives.

“From design and testing through to assembly, quality control, and dispatch, every step is driven by that shared sense of purpose.

"Add in the two dogs who keep morale high, and you have the real reason Future Safety continues to innovate, deliver, and support customers worldwide.”

GM Business Growth Hub Director Janine Smith hopes the campaign inspires more businesses to recognise what extraordinary things they could achieve, and to reach out for help.

He added: “Report after report is showing that Greater Manchester is the productivity growth capital of the UK.

"Between 2004 and 2023, we recorded the highest rise in gross value added (GVA) per hour worked, outperforming every other combined authority and city region.

“And we’re achieving all this because of the outstanding businesses that are in our city region.

"Any success we have, is because of them.

"Every job created, every product developed or sold is their success.”

GM Business Growth Hub have been providing businesses with fully funded specialised business support for over a decade.

Since 2011, they have engaged with more than 120,000 businesses, helped create over 16,000 jobs and secured nearly £300m of funding.

All the businesses in the campaign have benefited from support from the Hub.

And all 15 were nominated for by the Hub’s team of advisors to represent the variety of sectors and sizes across the ten local authorities.
