Get your entries in for the 'Muir's Miles' Oldham 7 and 10k races

Date published: 27 February 2018

Following the demise of two of the hugely popular Milltown to Moors running races, Oldham and Royton Harrier Tony Muir has resurrected the events in the form of the Oldham 7k and the Oldham 10k.

Now renamed ‘Muir’s Miles’, the two runs take place on May 6 and June 10 respectively, and already entries are being steadily submitted.

Muir said: “OCL decided to drop two of the Milltown to Moors races and as soon as I found that out, I jumped at the chance to take them on.

“There was a lot of disappointment in the running community when the previous races were dropped, so being given the chance to take them on didn’t take much thinking about.

“There’s quite a lot of work behind the scenes to do, but entries are coming in for the Oldham 7k now.

“They’ve been steadily dropping in. We are getting a lot of support from local runners as everyone appears to keep the events going.”

There has been a promising take-up so far for the 7k event, while entries open for the 10k on Thursday (March 1).

They will then be taken right up to race day, providing spaces are still available.

Both are 400 capacity entry runs – kindly supported by Up and Running Oldham and Sports Physio UK - which will follow the same routes as the previous Milltown to Moors runs.

Milltown to Moors still plan to stage their annual half marathon and triathlon events.

Running in Oldham has increased in popularity in recent years, with local clubs Oldham and Royton Harriers, Royton Road Runners, Greenfield Greyhounds, Saddleworth Runners and Rochdale Harriers boasting encouraging membership numbers.

“Running is definitely a sport that is on the up,” added Muir.

“There is more focus on healthy living thesedays and obviously running is probably the simplest form of exercise for anyone.

“It’s reasonably inexpensive, and anybody can join in.”

Meanwhile, if you enter the Oldham 10k before Friday evening you could be in with a chance of wearing the #1 bib in the race.
