Oldham's Arjun Mistry looks for a gap in the Leigh defence
Oldham RUFC opened their new campaign with a hard-earned 18-13 victory against Leigh.
The local outfit had a few new faces in the team, with Arjun Mistry, Jake Fallon and Corey Kelly all making their first senior starts having come through the youth academy.
Martyn Swaine and Isaac Dodds joined Oldham during the summer.
Oldham conceded the first penalty early on, before Leigh doubled the tally shortly after on four minutes.
However, Oldham recovered and went in at the interval with an impressive 15-0 lead.
Jordan McEwan and Greg Higgins touched down for tries, while Alex Jobson added the rest with the boot.
After the restart Leigh rallied and reduced the deficit to 15-10, but a Jobson penalty stretched the lead again before the visitors had the last word.
Oldham's player of the match was Mistry, who gave an all-round display both in attack and defence.
Hopefully a few more senior players will be back for this weekend’s visit to Fleetwood.
