It was a great day for Saddleworth Golf Club in the Oldham and District Centenary and 36-hole District Championship at Werneth GC.
Delighted Saddleworth professional Andrew Earlam said: “I am pleased that a clean sweep of the trophies went to Saddleworth.
“It was a double win for our Captain, Lee Rowbotham.
"Lee visited his former club with a strong chance of victory on the cards, his course knowledge played into his hands along with his daily golf routine paid dividends!
“Lee had a first round nett 66 to claim the Centenary Trophy and then followed up with a 74 in the afternoon...this gave him a total of 140 and forced a 6-hole play-off with Crompton and Royton member, Gary Melling.
“Lee managed to shoot -1 through the 6-hole play-off and win the District Trophy too.
“Congratulations, Lee truly is ‘Captain Fantastic’...I must say his game has gone from strength to strength since we paired up in the Captain Pro Challenge at Ormskirk!”
Back at Saddleworth, the Vics Captain’s ‘Major’ prize was played over 36 holes.
In round one Andy Barlow had the best nett round of 68 and Paul Rowbotham the best gross of 72.
In round two Paul again shot 72 and the best nett score of 66 came from Paul Baddeley.
The overall winner was Graham Hobbs 142 from Paul Rowbotham and Lee Blainey, both 144.
There was a red hot winner in the JW Holt medal at Saddleworth as Jonathan Hobday posted a stunning 61 to finish well clear of Jim Bradbury 67 and Ultan McGovern 68.
