Dojo Karate Centre members show off their medals
Dojo Karate Centre members from Oldham shone when part of Team GB at the European Martial Arts Championships held in London last weekend.
Thirty-nine members returned with an incredible 119 medals between them (39 Golds, 52 Silvers, 28 Bronze).
Everyone performed excellently with Brooke Rowan winning six Golds and two Silvers, followed by Anya R with four Golds, two Silvers, one Bronze, and Stevieann Partington winning four Golds and one Silver.
Sensei Ansari said: "This is an outstanding achievement for our Dojo Karate Centre, Rochdale, Oldham and Middleton, and for Great Britain.
"From all clubs that had selection present at the champs, Dojo Karate Centre won the most medals as a club.
"So we will be getting another trophy for this also.
"I'm particularly pleased to see our squad members excel to new boundaries and now work even harder to prepare for the World Championships in Dubai in October, 2025.
"The work starts now guys!
"They have all shown dedication, hard work, and their sportsmanship has truly shone through, bringing honour and recognition to our community.
"A special shout-out to all our Sensei for their unwavering guidance and support.
"Your wisdom, patience, and encouragement have been the backbone of our success.
"Without their tireless efforts, none of this would have been possible.
"In acknowledgement of their efforts Sensei Irfan Ansari (chief ref for all trad events), Huseyn Mikayilov (Team GB, male captain), and Jeet Kerai (competitor management) were all honoured with a medal mounted gift from the head tournament organisor Chris Hemstock.
"To every Dojo competitor, your passion and perseverance are inspiring.
"You have shown what it means to be a part of our Dojo family, and we couldn't be prouder.
"Also, huge thanks goes to all parents for supporting their children and managing to raise funds to be able to take them there - it was well worth it."
To celebrate the success, Dojo Karate Centre is giving a free class to all youngsters during school holidays - just book at: www.thedojo.net
The club gathers every Saturday at 2pm at the Radclyffe School in Chadderton.
