Vera Baird and Arooj Shah take a stroll down Coalshaw Green Road in Chadderton
Yew Tree primary school in Chadderton welcomed a familiar face yesterday.
Vera Baird QC, who is now the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria, used to live on Coalshaw Green Road, and she was back in Oldham to support the Annie Kenney Project, a fund-raising initiative as locals bid to install a statue of Oldham-born working class suffragette, Annie Kenney.
Vera joined Labour councillor and campaign co-ordinator Arooj Shah as they walked around the Chadderton South patch, looking at the house she lived at, visiting Yew Tree school, where she was once a student, while the pair also visited Coalshaw Green Park.
Vera shared some fond memories of the area and said she felt a strong connection to Oldham, and in particular Chadderton South.
