UPDATED: Bingo night fund-raiser for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice raises £1,300

A total of £1,300 was raised at Mecca Bingo on Saturday

Mecca Bingo in Oldham held a fundraising event on Saturday, in aid of a local charity whose shop was broken into during its opening weekend.

The Royton shop, which is run for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, had only just officially opened to the public just hours before the robbery took place. Thieves stole £500.

With the Mecca Oldham club situated less than two miles away from the shop, the team knew they had to do something to help.

Staff and customers certainly did that, and at the end of the night £1,300 had been raised.

Alongside the scheduled bingo games, there were some great prizes donated by local supermarkets.

Operations Manager at Mecca Oldham Jayne Farrand said: “Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is such an important charity in the local area.

"When we heard the new shop had been broken into, we knew we had to help.”
