Keira gets the star treatment in London

Ten-year-old Keira Arnold is the toast of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice after winning a national award at a glittering ceremony in London.

The Derker youngster won the young fundraiser category at the Institute of Fundraising awards 2018.

To date, young Keira has raised over £6,500 towards the Hospice that cared for her father in his final days when she was only four.

For more than a year Keira has been determined to say her very personal thank-you, and she has done this in spectacular and innovative fashion – from organising dance and fishing events to creating her own bookmarks and Unicorn dreamcatchers for sale at Hospice fundraising events.

A special fund – Keira’s Wishes – has been set up at the Hospice so that she can raise money that can be used to grant ‘one last wish’ for patients.

Keira was joined at the gala dinner by members of her proud family and equally proud Hospice staff.

Events Manager Vicky Stackhouse said: “We were planning to join Keira on the stage but when they announced her name she just dashed up in her excitement and had the trophy before we could blink.

"Her grandma said she had never seen her move so quick!

“What a fantastic achievement for an amazing young lady who thoroughly deserves the recognition.”

Keira said she loves the big trophy and it has now made her even more determined to come up with more ideas to swell the Hospice coffers.

The young star now has eyes on a double as she is back in the spotlight when she is a finalist at next Monday’s Greater Manchester Health and Social Care awards dinner at the Museum of Science and Industry.
