Anwar Choudhry has passed away aged 65
Hugely respected Oldham business adviser Anwar Choudhry has passed away aged 65.
After securing the first ‘Ethnic Minority Business Counsellor’ full-time position back in the early 1990s, Mr Choudhry swiftly became a hugely popular figure on the Oldham business scene.
He is widely regarded as one of the most influential people throughout the history of Asian business growth in Oldham.
Mr Choudhry was born in Pakistan in 1952. His family moved to the UK and settled in Doncaster.
His family home remained in Doncaster, but he lived in Oldham from 1993 to 2011, when he returned to Yorkshire.
After managing a number of businesses during his 20s and 30s, and obtaining a BA Degree in Public Administration, Mr Choudhry went on to secure a number of high-profile positions locally, including a business adviser role for Oldham Council.
He also worked for Oldham Chamber of Commerce and Business Link NW, while also working directly for the Asian Business Association as Business Support Manager.
Mr Choudhry leaves a wife and four children.
