Book your place at a celebration of all things Annie Kenney

Date published: 04 October 2018

An evening of all things Annie Kenney is set to take place on Thursday, October 25, between 5.30–7.45pm.

The public are invited to get along and commemorate 100 years of women’s suffrage at this special free event at Oldham Library.

The evening will consist of:

A rare showing of an episode from the BBC’s 1974 series, ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ – an honest and candid dramatization of the story of the suffragettes

An exclusive look at some of Annie Kenney’s possessions held at Gallery Oldham

A performance by Oldham Girls’ Choir

Talk by sculptor Denise Dutton about the Annie Kenney statue

Craft activities with Saddleworth Museum and Gallery.

You can book your place via: www.oldham.gov.uk/suffrage100events

Alternatively, email: policy@oldham.gov.uk or call 0161 770 1568.

This event falls just outside of Local Democracy Week – a week where we celebrate democracy and civic life.

This is apt given Oldham’s rich suffrage links and the particular achievements of Dame Sarah Lees – Oldham first female Mayor and only the second female Mayor in the UK – and Marjory Lees who was also engaged in political life.
