Black history month coming to Oldham Library

Oldham Library is welcoming everyone to a special free event next Wednesday
Oldham Library – in conjunction with Oldham Local Studies and Archives – is hosting a display celebrating Oldham’s West Indian community as part of Black History Month.
The industrial revolution at the end of the 18th century and the development of the cotton spinning industry in Oldham during the 19th century resulted in a huge influx of people coming to the borough to satisfy the needs of the mills.
The development of transport links such as roads, canals, railways, ships, and planes enabled people to come from further afield.
As a result, new communities were formed and made Oldham the diverse place it is today.
To celebrate the town’s diversity, Oldham Library is welcoming everyone to a special free event next Wednesday (17th),10am–12noon, to share stories and learn more about the West Indian community in Oldham.
